Introduction to Architectural Design

The Introduction to Architectural Design course for students aged 10-16 offers a comprehensive exploration of the fundamentals of architecture. Over the programme, students are introduced to essential design principles, including scale, proportion, and spatial awareness. They learn about different architectural styles and the history of architecture, gaining an understanding of how buildings and spaces are designed to meet functional and aesthetic needs.

Hands-on learning is a core component of the Programme. Students engage in practical activities such as creating architectural models using everyday materials, designing floor plans, and experimenting with 3D modelling software like TinkerCAD. These activities are designed to spark creativity while also teaching critical technical skills. For instance, students might create scale models of a room or design a conceptual layout for a public space, considering factors like accessibility, sustainability, and user experience.

Field trips and real-world case studies are also incorporated, allowing students to observe and analyse existing architectural works. By the end of the programme, students will have developed their architectural projects, complete with physical models and digital representations. This course not only introduces students to the world of architecture but also equips them with problem-solving skills, an eye for detail, and an appreciation for the built environment.

Introduction to Engineering

The Introduction to Engineering course is designed for students aged 10-16 who are curious about how things work and passionate about solving problems. This holiday programme offers a hands-on approach to learning, where students explore fundamental engineering concepts through interactive projects and challenges. The course covers various branches of engineering, providing students with a broad understanding of the field.

Throughout the programme, students engage in activities that mirror real-world engineering problems. For instance, they might build simple machines, design bridges using different materials, or create models that demonstrate the principles of renewable energy. These projects not only teach technical skills but also encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and innovation. Students learn to approach challenges methodically, using engineering principles to develop solutions that are both practical and creative.

The programme also introduces students to the engineering design process, guiding them from problem identification to prototype development and testing. By the end of the course, participants will have completed several engineering projects, each reflecting their growing understanding of how engineering shapes the world around us.

This introduction serves as a foundation for further exploration in the field of engineering and helps students build the confidence and skills necessary to pursue their interests in science and technology.
